Limestone Baseboard Installation Innovation

Limestone Baseboard Installation Innovation

Are you planning to use premium natural stone for your custom home or remodel project? When it comes to a marble limestone baseboard installation, true design elegance is in the details! Baseboards create an organic transition between the floor and wall, that is enhanced when it is custom crafted from Authentic Durango Stone. Often installing the transition around baseboard corners is difficult to execute. The normal solution is to cut multiple strips from the baseboard tile and set them together at an angle using a matching grout. This technique usually leads to an unappealing finished look that is not consistent with the craftsmanship found throughout the home. By utilizing our rounded edge baseboard corner design element, both homeowners and installers experience a rare form of natural stone artistry. Our Round Outside Baseboard Corner piece is designed for compatibility with standard 6-inch baseboards and can be ordered in any of our colors or finishes to match the look of your design. It matches perfectly to any baseboard tile – meeting it at a 90-degree angle while providing a gorgeous rounded edge. The Round Outside Baseboard Corner allows you to have a more elegant look without obvious joint or grout lines, providing a seamless final look.     Imagine you have ordered your marble limestone baseboards with a custom edge treatment added by the artisans at our factories, the home is nearing completion and looks magnificent. The corner space where the baseboards meet could mean the difference between an intentional interior design statement and an average installation method. To alleviate the stress of piecing together multiple pieces of the baseboard,  Authentic Durango Stone’s innovative Round Outside Baseboard Corner is the...

Before and After Home Remodel

Before and After Home Remodel

Moving into a new home brings with it many opportunities to make the space your own. Sometimes the process involves a complete remodel from floor to ceiling. Such was the case when George Wheat with Idola Design Group decided to bring the unique look of Authentic Durango Stone into his new personal residence. We’re excited to share this before and after home remodel story with you. This 10-year-old home in Phoenix, AZ had a very eclectic color scheme that did not quite match the look which George imagined for his home. But he saw potential. From the flooring in the living room to shower walls in the bathrooms, it was decided that a luxurious natural stone was desired look. Previous residents had chosen a darker, mustard hue for the walls and slate flooring tile design, which was accompanied by a beautiful stone fireplace. These colors seemed out of place a decade later, so George selected a timeless tonality in a rustic finish. A warm, caramel tile like Authentic Durango Espresso marble limestone makes the space feel like home. By making his selection in a vein-cut style George mixed a bit of a contemporary feel, which made a fantastic contrast to the Truly Tumbled finish. The masterful choice to install the tile in pattern completed the transformation of the living room and kitchen area. The Espresso flooring continues throughout the hallways of the home, extending the elegant look and feel of quality marble limestone into each room. Though Truly Tumbled tiles feature 200 years of wear on the surface, the tile remains smooth and pleasing on bare feet. It’s also a durable material...

Elegant Custom Stone Tables

Elegant Custom Stone Tables

Have you ever considered the impact of a table carved entirely out of solid natural stone can have on a space? There are few décor items that command more attention in a room than a custom work of art like this. Recently we commissioned a piece for our Scottsdale, AZ showroom and wanted to share the stunning results with you. The process began with a basic sketch from our Vice-President of Operations, Joel Allred, who heads our custom projects division. Imagining the design in 2 parts, a quick sketch was completed and desired dimensions notated. From there the design was ready to be delivered to our the stone artisans at our custom factories. Yes, it’s really that simple. At the factory, the plans were reviewed and work began immediately. Starting with a solid block of Authentic Durango Autumn marble limestone known for it’s wild peach, pewter and red tones, our Italian stone cutting machines were set to cut with the veins and unlock even more visual excitement contained within. Most of our stone selections can be requested in vein-cut or cross-cut styles.   Carefully crafted into a rounded pedestal base and circular table top, the piece began to take shape and photos from the factory made us all very excited. Shortly after completion, the carefully crated item had arrived at our offices, ready for installation as a centerpiece of our tile showroom. Custom orders like this have only a 3-4 week turn around time from conception to completion. Tile Installation Horror Story

Tile Installation Horror Story

Just imagine, your project is calling for natural stone tile and you find yourself experiencing the unmatched quality of Authentic Durango Stone. Of course you want the beauty, the elegance, the look of luxury, but then something gets in the way. Is it price? It’s probably price. Even though you’ve experienced the unmistakable difference in look and feel, you start imagining that a similar quality can be had for less. You start shopping around from store to store, trying to find a “better deal” on a tile that looks somewhat similar. Soon you’ve found a material that’s “not terrible” for a dollar a square foot and that’s when the real tile installation horror story begins. Everyone involved with a remodel or new build tile installation job feels the trickle down of terror when the decision is made to go cheap. It’s a scary proposition that slowly reveals itself over weeks and months before the terrifying truth sets in. First to feel the tinge of dread is the Seller of the stone. In the battle to get the sale, they kept chipping away at the price until the buyer said OK. Soon the seller’s profit has withered away to nothing and all they have accomplished is opening up space in their inventory for more low grade material to sell at rock bottom prices. Next to feel their pulse racing is the Interior Designer whose reputation is on the line. The gatekeepers of good taste, designers know the final outcome from choosing discount stone will not match the client’s desired look. Looking only at price tags to keep a project on budget...
Porcelain Tile VS Natural Stone

Porcelain Tile VS Natural Stone

Some say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but wouldn’t you rather have the real thing? Porcelain tile has gained popularity for home design over the last few years, but the reasons have changed. Traditionally porcelain was desired for the consistent, monochromatic look that some prefer for their interior spaces, but with advances in production technology, the highest trending porcelain tile selections are simply imitating the veining and variations found in natural stone with printed patterns. Natural stone such as the marble, limestone and travertine from Authentic Durango Stone has consistently been the choice of the finest structures for centuries. There is a sense of permanence and elegance associated with materials that are uniquely crafted by Mother Nature over millennia.   It’s the difference between buying an original painting by Picasso or a print reproduction from museum gift shop. One has value, the other gives you only the appearance of value. Price is often a consideration with porcelain tile as well, many believe it to be more affordable than a quality natural stone tile. However, the production cost to add these printing procedures also adds to the retail cost of the tile. So in the end you’re paying nearly the same amount or more for an approximation of a durable and beautiful stone.   Quality natural stone is the gift that keeps on giving, with many benefits that are commonly overlooked. Some prefer the consistent look and simple maintenance of porcelain tile. We always support the personal taste of the end user. Porcelain tile is easy to clean, but thanks to the the triple honed surface which comes standard on...
Modern Master Bathroom Design

Modern Master Bathroom Design

Why do so many architects, home builders and interior designers choose Authentic Durango Stone for their own homes? There’s only one answer, Quality. Professionals instantly recognize the unique look and feel of our marble limestone, commenting how different it is from any other natural stone tile in the marketplace.   Recently Lynn Pomeroy, a California Architect with an impressive legacy decided to create a modern master bathroom design for his personal residence.   Seeking out a quality natural stone to give the space distinction, Lynn contacted our office and was introduced to our contemporary, Authentic Durango Veracruz Vein-Cut material.     The design called for 12×24 tiles to adorn the walls of the shower and bathtub areas, which are separated by a large, clear pane of glass. The natural veining found in this ivory-beige stone selection helps to give the walls a linear appearance, which is ideal for modern master bathroom design.   Lining the floors of the shower is a 2×2 Mosaic Meshmount pattern, which is functional as well as beautiful. Each sheet of this mesh-backed tile design equals one square foot and helps to bring together the complimentary tones of the tile selection.     Vanity designs are often the focal point of the bathroom and this one is especially worthy of mention. Lynn selected a 3cm slab of honed and filled Veracruz Vein-Cut to provide an uncut look to the countertop area. The modern sink and fixtures really amplify the effect. Of course our job as stone professionals is never really done until the installation is finished and the customer is satisfied. Lynn had this to say...
